Artists Bio

Ann Thiffault attended the Portland Art School in Maine (now known as MECA, the Maine College of Art). As a child, she vacationed in South Yarmouth, and has lived on Cape Cod since 1964. Having raised her family, she now devotes more time to driving around the Cape, searching for interesting vistas to photograph and take back to her Harwich Port studio. In her hands, palette knife and oil paint transform familiar scenes, landscapes and buildings into feelings approaching abstraction. Thiffault has  studied with Louis Griffel, Steve Allrich, and Charles Sovek. Widely recognized on the Cape, she is the recipient of many juried art show awards.

Artists Statement

I attempt to paint my feelings. Although I am conscious of composition, perspective and values, those things are secondary to creating a painting that speaks to me, and hopefully, to others.  The smell of oil paint and turpentine, the creamy feel of the paint as I apply it with the knife, the heavy impasto on the board, and I become competely lost in the experience of creating a painting.
