Artists Bio
Born in Western Pennsylvania

from the University of New Mexico in 1963 and his MFA from Pratt Institute in
1970. A professor of art for over twenty years, Edwards has exhibited
extensively in major galleries and museums throughout the United States. His
paintings are in many private collections here and abroad, including the American
Embassy collection in New Guinea. He resides on Cape Cod with his wife, the
painter Lillia Frantin.
Artists Statement
While “painterly realism”
might best describe my work, my art has never been easily categorized. Whether
working directly from nature “on site” or inspired by my many photographs and
sketches back in the studio, I strive for a unique liveliness and energy and
sensitivity to the subject, and the balance that exists between “outer”
observed qualities, and a desire for a more personal response. The dialogue
between art and life is imbedded in the paintings and my continual pursuit into
the possibilities of the paint medium give the paintings, I think, an expected
freshness that hopefully keep the work alive and new.
